Roller Girl

UPDATE!!!!

At the beginning of the year, I read an amazing graphic novel, “Roller Girl.”  The author was fairly new, and I had contacted her to see if she would do a skype.  Time passed and she received the Newbery Honor Award for “Roller Girl”!!!  I immediately lost my mind thinking there was no way she would have time to skype with us.  In the midst of my fangirl craze, I came up with the idea to invite the 3rd grade girls to my last 4th grade book club of the year as a way of introducing them to the 4th grade book clubs for next year.  I’m super excited, and I hope you will be too!  

Because…

I’m moving my 4th grade girls book club meeting from May 16th to May 9th, so that Newbery Honoree Victoria Jamieson can skype with us!  And  the 3rd grade girls are invited to attend!  I know it’s short notice, but the book is a fabulous graphic novel.  The other catch is it will be during 4th grade lunch, so any girls planning to come will need to be in the Downstairs Computer Lab by 12:46 pm.  The skype will last approximately 30 minutes.  

Last Girls' Book Club Meeting May 16!!

I read this book in September, which seems like only yesterday but is actually now pretty far in the past.  It is easily one of my favorite books I've read this year!  The book is about a girl who doesn't fit the mold.  She knows who she is and what she wants to do.  What's more she's willing to work really hard to make things happen for her.  There's a lot of learning along the way.  Astrid learns who her real friends are, how to overcome obstacles, and the value of treating others well.
