I was so interested in the diverse comments we received during our discussion of The Secret Tree. The comments and thoughts were varied and thought-provoking. We had a rich discussion about so many wonderful things but one special act that we got to do was write on our own secret message intended for The Secret Tree. We are thankful that our rabbi, Micah Lapidus, will be sharing our "secrets" with the Western Wall during his annual trip to Israel with our 8th grade students. In our discussion, it was also pointed out that this book may remind us of To Kill A Mockingbird when we read that in 7th grade. It may be interesting to go back and reread The Secret Tree in a couple of years to see if and how our opinions may change and why.
Our next book club pick is Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick. This is a story that will surely leave us "wonderstruck" as it weaves a brilliant tale of two different lives set against the backdrop of an enchanting New York City. Not to mention, whenever a librarian plays a key role in a book, you know it will be good!
